Native Plant Experts | About Pukerau Nursery
James has a M.Agr.Sc (Hons) from Lincoln University and has worked in the general environmental area with Fish and Game, DoC, Environment Southland and Meridian Energy Ltd. Prior to purchasing Pukerau James was operating his own business specialising in riparian management, elver (baby eels) management and a contract with ES providing farm plans.
Maree is from Riversdale, gained a B. Agr. Sc (Hons) from Lincoln University. She then worked as an agronomist, undertook tissue culture for Forest Research Institute (now Scion), plant propagation for Victoria University and recently as a technical officer for Environment Southland.
We have retained existing staff and are looking forward to continuing the production of high quality cold hardy native plants. Nursery Manager Jill Thwaites will continue to be responsible for the day to day running of the nursery and the team. Originally from a farm in Western Southland, Jill’s extensive knowledge and experience mean she is an ideal point of contact for order and plant enquiries.
Maree and James have always had strong links with plants, setting up a number of small-scale nurseries at home for community and environmental planting and our gardens. We now look forward to providing quality plants for your planting requirements.
